Hospira produces a number of drugs, including drugs for cancer treatment, at their Glen Waverly site. |

All changes at the plant needed to be managed correctly and efficiently but the existing system was not centralised and managed only one third of the changes. As the existing system also could not cope with an increased volume, a new system was required. |
Project Outline:
A Change Control Database (CCDB) was implemented in stages, with the final version using a SQL Server back-end database and MSAccess front end for the user interface.
Initially the change management was not consistently applied across the site. The new system was required to:
- Allocate a unique identifying number to each change
- Record the core information associated with each change
- Trend this information to enable changes to be tracked by product type and equipment type
- Track the metrics of changes including the number of changes per period, opening changes that need to be expedited through the system and the types of changes
- Track the whereabouts of each Change Control Form package
- Record Change Control information in database format
Initial implementation used MS Access for both the user interface and data store, whilst the final implementation uses MS SQL Server for the data store.
The Change Control database is accessed by network users via CITRIX, which is essentially transparent to the application.
The CCDB has provided a centralised system of change management, with various user access levels.
