The Synertec custody transfer system is a skid mounted module suitable for all LNG applications including shipboard and floating LNG installations. The transfer of LNG between marinized vessels is fast becoming more predominant than traditional transfers between LNG carriers and land-based terminals. This is seeing the rise of FSRUs in place of traditional LNG to natural gas conversion onshore. And we are now beginning to see a rise in the need for LNG bunkering vessels.  This all brings about new challenges to LNG sampling. 

  • Firstly, sampling systems need to be built to adhere to ships structural requirements, while being of a small form factor.
  • Secondly, due to the low pressures used in the transfer of LNG between vessels brought about by the use of flexible hoses, the sampling system must be able to sample LNG at these low pressures, without causing fractionation of the LNG. This is a common issue in the accuracy of older LNG sampling systems that are specialised only to land-based applications.
  • Thirdly, it is imperative that natural gas and in particular, methane is not lost to the atmosphere during the sampling process. 

The Synertec CTS is the only system in the world that can sample LNG at low pressures, commonly found in ship to ship transfer. The unique design ensures that fractionation of the LNG does not occur, even in LNG that is not sub-cooled. It is able to achieve this without the loss of any LNG or gas during the process, which is vitally important. 

All systems are built bespoke for our customers. This ensures that the vessels structural integrity is preserved, the footprint is minimised, hazardous areas requirements are complied with, and all interfaces to the ship’s services such as air and power are considered.
