Synertec Secures US Patent for LNG Custody Transfer System

Synertec has reached a major milestone with the granting of a United States patent for its proprietary LNG Custody Transfer System (CTS), a compact and highly accurate solution designed to revolutionise the way liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes are valued and transferred.

The US patent is expected to fast-track regulatory approvals in other key international markets, strengthening Synertec’s global position as a leader in high-integrity engineering solutions for critical infrastructure.

Designed to precisely calculate the monetary value of LNG during fiscal custody transfers, Synertec’s patented CTS addresses long-standing challenges in the sector. Traditional systems often struggle with fluctuating line pressures, which can compromise measurement accuracy. Synertec’s technology maintains high accuracy regardless of operational variables—a vital feature given that a single cargo of LNG can be worth between $15 million and $20 million.

Accurate measurement is critical in reducing financial risk across the LNG supply chain. Inaccuracies in custody transfer can result in significant revenue loss, especially when compounded over multiple cargoes. The CTS helps eliminate this risk, supporting more transparent and reliable LNG transactions.

Thanks to its modular and compact design, the CTS is suitable for both land-based and marine applications, including installations where space and operational stability are critical.

While Synertec continues to focus on securing large-scale, multi-Powerhouse contracts, growing global awareness of LNG’s role in the future energy mix is driving increased demand for scalable, high-precision custody transfer solutions. The number of CTS enquiries has risen steadily as stakeholders seek to de-risk LNG transactions and maximise profitability.
